Cookies

Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser to enable our systems to recognise your browser and to provide features such as automatic login and permanent shopping carts for storage of items in your Shopping Cart between visits.

Our Site uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our Site. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our Site and also allows us to improve our Site.

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer if you agree. We may use the following cookies:

Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include, for example cookies that enable you to log in to secure areas of our website, use a shopping cart or make use of e-billing services.

Analytical/performance cookies. They allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works for example by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

Functionality cookies. These are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example your choice of language or region).

The "help" portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, cookies allow you to take full advantage of some of Smithy's best features, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

Furthermore, a number of companies offer utilities designed to help you visit websites anonymously. You should note that if you choose to do this we will not be able to provide you with a personalised experience at Smithy's and you may not be able to access all parts of our Site. We do however want you to be aware that these tools exist.

E-mail Communications

To help us make e-mails more useful and interesting, we often receive a confirmation when you open e-mail from Smithy's if your computer supports such capabilities. We also compare our customer list to lists received from other companies, in an effort to avoid sending unnecessary messages to our customers. If you do not want to receive e-mail or other mail from us, please adjust your account to reflect this by selecting unsubscribe in the newsletter.

Information from Other Sources

For reasons such as improving personalisation of our service (for example providing better product recommendations or special offers that we think will interest you), we might receive information about you from other sources and add it to our account information. We also sometimes receive updated delivery and address information from our shippers or other sources so that we can correct our records and deliver your next purchase or communication more easily.

Does Smithy's share the information it receives?

Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and we are not in the business of selling it to others. You agree that we have the right to share your personal information with companies within our group, which means our subsidiaries.

Beyond our group of companies we may share your information with selected third parties as described below.

Agents:

We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analysing data, providing marketing assistance, processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes.

Business Transfers:

As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy other businesses, stores or assets. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets. Also, in the unlikely event that Smithy's, or substantially all of its assets are acquired, customer information will of course be one of the transferred assets.

Compliance with laws and protection of Smithy's and Others

We may release account and other personal information if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation; or to enforce or apply our terms and conditions and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Smithy's, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with law enforcement agencies, or companies and organisations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

With Your Consent

Other than as set out above, you will receive notice when information about you might go to third parties, and you will have an opportunity to choose not to share the information.

Where we store your personal information

Once we have received your information, we will use appropriate and robust procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access to your information and to meet our obligations to you under Data Protection legislation. All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. Any payment transactions will be encrypted using SSL technology.

Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our Site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our Site; any transmission is at your own risk.
